MATILDA Concludes Australian Tour
The Royal Shakespeare Company‘s Australian leg of the Australasian tour of Matilda The Musical will conclude in Adelaide today after a record-breaking five-city run. The most successful musical to play in Australia in recent memory, Matilda has played to sell-out houses across the country, received extraordinary reviews and swept almost every entertainment industry awards ceremony, including the 2016 Helpmann Awards, where the show received a record thirteen awards, including Best Musical
The Australian Production commenced performances in Sydney in July 2015 and Australian audiences immediately fell in love with the show, which went on to play Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide, where the tour will end for Australian audiences, having played over 750 performances.
The Most awarded musical in Australian show business history, Matilda The Musical has been the recipient of close to 100 international awards, including 16 for Best Musical.
With book by Dennis Kelly and original songs by Tim Minchin, Matilda The Musical is the story of an extraordinary girl who, armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her own destiny.
The Daily Review described the production as “nothing short of a miracle”. The Australian said the show “makes you want to punch the air with delight.” and Time Out Sydney pronounced the show “a freaking masterpiece”.
